About Meliorate
Meliorate, verb: to improve; to make better (mi:lIɘreIt)
I have been interested in how complimentary therapies can help maintain someone’s health & wellbeing since being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis as a teenager.
I am a passionate advocate for the use of holistic complimentary therapies to maintain people’s wellbeing. I was 14 when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Whilst the care I received from the NHS was excellent the condition can be difficult to manage, due to having multiple symptoms and no known cause, so my Mum & I looked to find treatments that would support and compliment the medicine I had been prescribed. A family friend who is a Reflexologist introduced me to aromatherapy & reflexology and a lifelong interest was born. As a former NHS Professional I feel that an holistic approach is what is missing from modern healthcare due to resources being so stretched. Treating people as whole beings, not just the symptom or ailment, is the key to people’s wellbeing. I would love for the therapies I offer to become a routine part of everyones’ management of a healthy balanced life rather than be viewed as treat or only for special occasions. I offer treatments in Aromatherapy, Deep Tissue or Indian Head Massage, Reflexology and Sound Therapy throughout the Plymouth and South Hams region. My qualifications are recognised by the International Institute of Complimentary Therapists & I am fully insured to practice in all the therapy modalities I offer.

About the Therapist
Hi 👋🏽 I’m Jo Thomson
I’m a former NHS Professional. I worked as a Therapeutic Radiographer (treating patients who had cancer) for almost 24 years all over the UK and Ireland. Patients would often refer me to me as “… the one with the warm hands!”
I qualified as a Massage Therapist and Reflexologist in 2022.
Adding Aromatherapy, Indian Head massage and Sound Therapy to the range of therapies I offer over the last 2 years.
When I’m not massaging people, making aromatherapy blends or hosting soundbaths I can usually be found sea swimming 🌊🏊♀️.
Sea swimming has had a profoundly positive effect on both my physical and mental health & wellbeing.
When not working (or swimming) I also enjoy cooking, going to the beach, watching rugby, going to gigs, mooching around museums and galleries, travelling and reading.
